Boho-chic clothing for children is based upon bohemian values of beauty, comfort, and honoring diverse cultures. It is a look that favors the fluid, the floral, and the values of fun. Bohemian chic is the opposite of cookie-cutter cute. It is a style that is as unique as the individual who wears it. It is often centered on the casual American fashion of the 1960s, but as the counterculture included the influences of earlier time periods in its eclectic embrace of style and personal values, it often includes hints of the Victorian, a nod to the fabrics and details of the 1940s, or an homage to the intellectuals of the 1950s.

    Small wonders
Children take to the casual visual creativity of boho-chic. The style is fun, unfussy, and can be adaptable by adding new layers and pieces to keep a wardrobe growing along with your little one. Individual elements co-operate and co-ordinate, playing together beautifully.

    Style
Your child is unique and sporting unique children’s clothes is one way to celebrate the special qualities that your child embodies. As your child blossoms, so will the clothing pieces that he or she is attracted to collecting.

    Vintage fabrics and patterns
One way to bring the drama and fun of vintage stylings into the wardrobe is by employing vintage fabrics and patterns for a feeling of authenticity. These can be found everywhere, from your own home to flea markets to online specialty stores. Part of the adventure is coming upon the unique find.

    Sustainability
Whether you’re repurposing clothing or creating new items with saved materials, a boho-chic look celebrates the ideals of sustainability, of using, reusing, and repurposing both the trends, themes, and materials that honor the fashions and ease of yesterday for the children of today.

    Skill
If you know how to sew or knit and enjoy using these skills to make things that are useful and beautiful…those are wonderful gifts. If you enjoy teaching these skills to your child that is the bow on the gift.

    Originality
A central theme in the ideology and styling of boho-chic children’s clothes is that in a world that sometimes seems to easily proffer conformity and commodification, you can teach the values the celebrating the original, the unusual, and the one-of-a-kind. It shows a mindfulness in the elevation of the quotidian. Each piece is thoughtfully selected and valued for the wit and appeal that it possesses.

    Values
Like the original bohemians who desired to shake up mainstream conformity and live according to values of authenticity and the true core values of egalitarianism and intellectualism…of a life of the senses and of expressing oneself through art, work, and play; bohemian children’s clothes express these same core values.

My name is Jennifer Swanson and my daughter is Isabella. We were so excited to be asked to work with Magnolia Lake Children’s Clothing Company as Isabella modeled a Gorgeous Dress for them and it was an instant favorite of hers. We are fortunate enough to know the beautiful family behind Magnolia Lake Clothing and I have to say my family and I are blessed to have them as friends. Their inspirational designs, vintage look, and handmade touch make them so appealing and it is so important to us to support handmade and Made in the USA companies.

I have had a love for photography ever since high school and we relocated from Illinois to Florida years ago and there is so much beauty here in Florida that I started taking a lot more photos of nature and my children. Isabella and I started our modeling journey three years ago for Boutiques; just for her and I to have special bonding time as she likes to dress up and I wanted to get back into photography. Our family also feels it is very important to give back so this summer my children and I started volunteering at the Vero Beach Humane Society where we work with the Read and Relax Program. In this program we read books to the dogs outside of their kennels and it helps them to relax and become adopted more easily because they are not as wound up when people come to look at them. I will also be donating my time, when the kids head back to school, to photograph the animals at the Humane Society by providing pictures for their website and facebook pages. I am able to volunteer weekly at my children’s elementary school by helping their teachers and visit the classrooms every week as a guest speaker for a program called Winner’s Walk Tall. It helps me cover topics with the children in order to help them handle daily situations such as bullying, cheating, manners, and how to be a better person. Pretty much every topic imaginable we cover throughout the school year. It was and is such a rewarding experience that now as I go into school and around town I hear, ” Hi  Mrs. Swanson. I want you to meet my parents”. In additional to this, I was able to take photos of the teachers and their classes for Teacher Appreciation Week and give them the movie star treatment which was so much fun for them to have this year.

It has really fueled my desire to start a photography business after being asked to be the second photographer on site for the Magnolia Lake Clothing Fall Shoot in Vero Beach, Florida. It was truly so much fun working with all the girls and Isabella was so excited to be a part of it and we both made new friends. I thought to myself, I would really love to do this for others so I am ready to start my journey as a local photographer in Sebastian/Vero Beach Florida and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

    “Spotlight on Courtney Hintz”

Who are you as a photographer?

I am a lifestyle/portrait photographer located in Ocean Springs, MS. With anything I photograph, I strive to capture the more natural, raw, relaxed, the real life moments. I’m inspired by light, laughter, emotion, and the moments that happen in between.

My biggest inspiration, my muses, the real lights in my life…my family and my dear friends.

How did photography enter your world?

I have great compassion for other people; always felt I would have a career in the “helping” field. I have always had a deep love and appreciation for photography, too. Photography had always been a hobby, and never something I thought I would take on as a career. It’s something I never thought I could actually make a living doing, and it was placed on the back burner as I started a different career. I obtained my B.A in Human Services from California State University, and my M.S. in Counseling. Over the past several years, I have been an addiction therapist, as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I’m currently an LPC in the local elementary schools, with an emphasis on children who have parents in the military.

Photography came back into my life in 2012. I needed something that sparked adventure and joy in my life, something that would challenge me creatively. In February 2012, my daughter entered the world. Life was no longer monotonous, and my camera started getting more use, and less dust.

It was during this time that I realized how balanced my life seemed to be. That’s when I decided that I could have both. I could still have passion for helping people who are suffering and are hurting, but I could also have a passion for capturing such happy times in a persons life. Photography brings balance to my life. I’m blessed to see both sides of the world. The good and the bad. The happy and the sad. The sickness and the healthy.

    What are you currently photographing?

I’m located along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and photograph families, children, couples, weddings, and other events.

Earlier this year, I was presented with the opportunity to photograph for Magnolia Lake Clothing, as their lifestyle/boutique photographer. Their company, and the designer/family behind the brand are truly amazing human beings. Their business is much bigger than creating beautiful designs; they inspire, and have proved that giving back to your community is just as important as the designs they create. For me, it is much bigger than photographing children’s clothing, they have fueled my passion to help give back as well.

I eventually hope to use my love of photography in a way that Magnolia Lake Children’s Clothing uses their brand to give back. I am currently working on a project to help bring more awareness and education to our U.S. Military Veteran population. Specifically on issues surrounding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder among our Veterans.

I’m not sure where all of this will lead me, but I’m excited to find out. For now, I will enjoy this ride!
